Operations update: maintenance, technology and transportation; one bus likely totaled pending insurance

Committee members heard a series of operations updates covering maintenance, technology, transportation and food service, and were told that one bus involved in a recent accident is likely a total loss pending insurance review.

Maintenance staff reported starting the period with 82 open work orders, receiving about 200 requests and completing 163, leaving 115 outstanding. Staff said preventive maintenance and investments in custodial staffing and training have improved campus conditions.

Technology staff reported handling several hundred tickets—starting with 90 work orders, receiving 335 requests and completing 351—leaving 74 outstanding and noting plans to set monthly individual goals for technicians.

Transportation staff said they handled 53 bus work orders and completed all 53; several buses returned from repairs in Alexandria and the department reported being fully staffed with mechanics, reducing outsourcing. When asked about a bus involved in an accident, staff said an insurance assessment is pending but their preliminary assessment indicates the vehicle will likely be totaled; staff praised the driver for actions that prevented more serious harm.

Food service staff said the district averaged about 4,654 meals per day in February and about 4,612 meals per day year-to-date.

Superintendent remarks closed the operations segment: the superintendent thanked finance and operations staff for their work, highlighted recurring custodial reviews and named Mr. Mike Ramitz as the maintenance foreman conducting walkthroughs and team training.
