Cody introduced the proposal and said Mayer had identified public and private sites where trees could be planted; the city will use a $10,000 grant (referred to in the packet as from “Amon”) to cover a portion of the cost and staff recommended covering remaining expenses with TIF funds because the sites are located within a TIF district. Council members asked about timing and staff said planting is expected to begin in January, weather permitting.
Officials said the contractor will provide maintenance for approximately one year under warranty to ensure the trees are established; staff noted the initial phase is intended to be part of a multi-year effort and that many property owners have already agreed to host trees. A council member thanked Mayer for doing the legwork to secure access agreements and said relying on private volunteers avoids diverting city staff time.
The motion to approve the contract was made, seconded and passed by unanimous roll call. Staff said they will return with details on exact planting sites and any required easement or access agreements.
