At its Feb. 2 meeting the Everett School Committee approved several policies, grants and program changes as part of its regular agenda.
The committee voted to approve the Everett High School career and technical education (CTE) admissions policy that includes a lottery‑based admissions process when applications exceed available seats, following "the DESIE guidelines on lottery based admissions," the superintendent said. The board also adopted a new middle‑school pathway exploration policy required by state CTE guidelines to ensure consistent access to information and planning for families entering high school.
The committee accepted an interpreter and education training grant in the amount of $8,500 to train five bilingual employees in DESE‑approved special education interpreter training, plus two Ever Cultural Council grants ($750 and $667) to support school arts and after‑school science programs. The superintendent said staff will post application information for interested employees and select five participants for the interpreter training.
Members approved implementation of full‑day prekindergarten for the 2026–27 school year by roll call. The board also submitted and approved bills and payroll dated Jan. 28, 2026, totaling $3,597,824.73.
All motions reported in these agenda items passed on roll call with unanimous 'yes' votes unless otherwise noted. Several members asked for clarity on outreach methods for the pathway policy and on how staff will publicize training opportunities for the interpreter grant.
