South Elementary students present reading-month projects to school board

South Elementary students and staff presented projects tied to March's Reading Month during the Grandville Public Schools Board of Education meeting.
Dr. England introduced third- and fourth-grade students and librarian Mrs. Lemons, who described the schoolwide initiative 'one school, one book' that gave every student the same take-home book at the start of the month. Students described group poster projects connected to books such as Pumpkin Jack and The Dot, a mock book vote that led to the visiting illustrator Kacia Chan, and VIP reading events where family members visited classrooms to read with students.
Mrs. Lemons and the students explained that the books were used across lessons in science, SEAL and math and that library activities included a year-long pumpkin experiment intended for the school garden. Board members complimented the students’ presentation skills and encouraged continued community involvement in literacy activities.
The presentation concluded with board members and attendees praising the student work and recognizing the value of cross-grade engagement when older students and volunteers participate in elementary literacy events.
