Council approves $17,000 appropriation and contract amendment to complete FY23–24 street rehab

Public Works Director Lucha Rodriguez told the council that the FY23–24 street rehabilitation and sidewalk replacement project (awarded June 16, 2025 to SQL Contractors) closed out under the contract timeline and at a final cost of about $2.179 million. Staff said in‑house design work saved the city between $100,000 and $200,000 and reported inspection‑service savings; because of additional materials purchased during construction staff requested an appropriation of $17,000 from existing accounts to pay the contract amendment.
Rodriguez said the project achieved additional paving and concrete work beyond original limits because of favorable material pricing, and noted remaining contingency and inspection savings would return to the paving fund for future projects. Council members asked clarifying questions about the accounting and remaining balances; staff confirmed a remaining allocated balance (reported in the packet) and said surplus funds will be used for future paving projects.
A motion to appropriate $17,000 and execute the contract amendment passed unanimously (Council Member Quas absent). Staff said execution of the amendment will allow final payment to the contractor and close the project.
