The Tri-Valley Local Board of Education approved a slate of personnel actions, service agreements and extracurricular plans at its regular meeting on Aug. 10, 2023.
Board member Luke Davis moved to adopt the meeting agenda and to approve routine business, including minutes from July 13 and the June financial report; both motions passed by unanimous roll call. The board then approved an administrative stipend of $3,000 for Mary Ann Champion to serve as DASL and Progress Book coordinator for 2023–24.
In personnel actions, the board issued certified contracts to Benjamin F. Kennedy III (teacher, Bachelors+150, Step 14) and to Lane Heil as a vocational agricultural instructor (one-year contract, pending verification). It approved several classified contracts and personnel changes, including the retirement of Carolyn Slate (educational aide at Frazeysburg Elementary, effective Aug. 18, 2023), one-year contracts for special education assistants Renee Niven and Cameron Moran (5.5 hours, high school), assistant custodial hires Chad Cunningham (high school) and Greg Hindel (Nashport Elementary), and one-year limited bus driver contracts for Angelina Butler and Gregory Schultz; all motions carried by roll call.
The board approved a supplemental contract for Marley Kennedy as the high school drama club advisor and accepted three parent volunteers—Tiffany Mohler, Mary Durst and Jill Beebe—as marching band chaperones for 2023–24.
Under Resolution #23-242 the board approved three service agreements: a Pitney Bowes rental agreement for a postage meter at the district office; an Edmentum renewal for credit recovery at the high school; and audiology services from the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center (ECOESC). The board also approved a high school trip to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., scheduled for Dec. 7–8, 2023, and authorized all bus stop locations while delegating authority to designate or relocate subsequent bus stops to the superintendent and the director of operations. The 2023–24 athletic handbook was approved as presented.
Board member Scott Ford moved and board member Andrea Collet seconded the appointment of board member Luke Davis as the district’s Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) delegate for the annual business meeting on Nov. 13, 2023; the motion cited Ohio Revised Code 3313.482 and passed on a 4–0–1 roll call with Davis abstaining.
