Belmar council approves consent agenda; council members highlight community events and harbor rate work

The Belmar Borough Council approved the consent agenda and heard reports about local events, harbor-rate work and housing authority bids during its meeting.

A motion to approve the minutes of the Oct. 14 meeting carried, and council later moved and seconded to approve the resolutions listed on the consent agenda; council members recorded affirmative responses in the roll-call confirmation (Councilwoman Donovan, Councilwoman Kenny, Mayor Magesco, Counciloman Riro and Councilman Levis each indicated "yes").

In council reports, Councilwoman Donovan described environmental-club grant activity and noted the Harbor Commission is finalizing rate recommendations intended to be transparent and predictable. She promoted a Belmar Women’s Club Winter Extravaganza scheduled for Jan. 14 (ticket bundle $50) and identified Johanna Robertson as a contact. Officials reported youth basketball signups and a St. Rose High School public shadow day for eighth graders.

The mayor noted recent library programs — a Diwali event and a local-author talk at the Taylor Pavilion — and said the Belmar Housing Authority opened bids for façade repair; more information will follow after the authority’s next board meeting. The mayor also said hometown-hero veterans banners will be installed on Main Street in time for Veterans Day and pointed to a Veterans Day service at 9:00 a.m. on Nov. 11.

Other public comments covered a proposed master calendar for town events, praise for DPW crews after recent storms and a traffic suggestion to evaluate converting D Street to one-way toward 8th Avenue. Council members said such traffic changes require coordination with the police chief and the borough engineer.
