The initial engineer estimate for separate filtration at each wellhouse was roughly $5.25 million; staff said tying some wellhouses together could reduce costs and that additional state funding is being pursued.
Delaware Engineering was awarded the engineering contract; the resolution adopted (as amended) authorizes the town to engage the firm to finalize designs that will be used to secure grant funds and to refine cost estimates. Staff said the likely total cost to complete treatment for all wellhouses could be in the $3 million range once design economies and additional grants are included.
Board members emphasized staged implementation and directed staff to refine scope and funding sources. The board also asked staff to change a reference in the resolution from "municipal funds" to "district funds" so that the water district bears capital costs consistent with prior decisions.
