Burlingame commission forms El Camino Real Renewal ad hoc committee; several ad hoc committees reviewed

Chair Martos reviewed a committee rubric explaining the difference between ad hoc committees (task-limited, typically two commissioners) and standing committees (staff-supported, Brown Act obligations). The commission agreed that ad hoc groups should have a defined scope and end date.
The commission recorded that the BIS School Safety Committee had completed its work and agreed to disband it; staff noted one outstanding item depends on school-provided drop-off information. Several other committees remain active: the Hillside Drive safety and traffic calming committee (ongoing, ~25% complete) and a Key Performance Indicators committee focused on safety and bike/ped metrics.
Following discussion about Caltrans'led El Camino Real redevelopment, commissioners moved and seconded a motion to form an El Camino Real Renewal ad hoc committee; a roll-call vote was recorded and the motion carried. The committee will be staffed by commission staff and initially include Commissioners Brown and Israelit.
Commissioners asked staff to continue coordinating with Caltrans and to share updates with the ad hoc committee when available. Chair Martos and staff said ad hoc committees provide an opportunity to get focused commissioner input without creating standing public meeting obligations.
