Humble ISD board approves personnel recommendations, adopts consent agenda and sends 25 library titles back to committee

The Humble ISD Board of Trustees approved personnel recommendations, moved its consent agenda and took a separate vote on library materials after trustees expressed concerns about committee process and close committee votes.

Trustee Mr. Silva moved to approve the administration’s personnel recommendations as presented in closed session; the board voted and the motion carried unanimously (transcript records a 7‑0 vote).

The consent agenda (items 5A–5P) was approved excluding pulled item 5L, which Trustee Scarfo pulled so the board could recognize theater students; the board later adopted the March 2026 Theater in Our Schools Month proclamation by unanimous vote.

Item 6A, a recommendation from the School Library Advisory Committee to add 40 new library materials, prompted extended discussion. Trustees questioned whether committee members had sufficient time to vet all materials and noted a close committee vote (15–7 reported in committee notes) on a subset of titles. Trustee Scarfo proposed an amendment to approve only the 15 titles the district already owned and to send the remaining approximately 25 titles back to the committee for further review; the amendment was seconded and the board approved the motion as amended (unanimous vote recorded 6‑0 in the transcript for that roll call). Trustees asked administration to poll committee members in future votes to provide clearer context on close results and to return with additional information on the remaining titles.

Board members then moved on to scheduled informational and committee reports.
