Northrop Grumman honored for donation as Torrance Invention Convention nears largest year

The Torrance Unified School District board recognized Northrop Grumman on March 1 after the company made a renewed donation to the district's Invention Convention, a school official said.
Cindy Le, introduced as a Northrop Grumman representative, thanked the board and teachers and said the company's gift aims to "ignite their imagination" and "inspire the next generation of inventors and scientists." Marissa Sano, who helps organize the district's Invention Convention, told trustees the program's private support allows the event to remain free for students and grow year to year.
"We've got over 550 kids that have registered so far," Sano said, adding the team expected about 100 more registrations by the March 29 event at El Camino College. "So on track to be the largest one yet." Barker, speaking on behalf of the board, thanked Northrop Grumman for its generosity on behalf of the district.
The board placed the recognition on the consent portion of the agenda; no formal action was required beyond the acknowledgment. District staff and trustees praised the Invention Convention and its role advancing student engagement in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) programming.
Organizers said top participants from the district may advance to regional and national rounds; the Invention Convention website lists registration and judging details for families and volunteers. The district also encouraged community members to consider serving as event judges and volunteers.
