Lake County commissioners honor Project Hope as nonprofit reports rise in senior clients

The Lake County Board of Commissioners recognized Project Hope for the Homeless during its regular meeting, presenting a certificate to the nonprofit and hearing from staff about an increase in seniors seeking services.
Judy Burr, of Project Hope for the Homeless, told the board that county funding helps the organization “restore the hope and renew the lives of hundreds of people every year.” Burr said Project Hope is serving more seniors with complex medical needs, stating the number of seniors served rose from about 24 to about 48 in 2025 and that the organization assists roughly 500 people annually.
Burr recounted a recent client who woke up unable to feel his legs, lost long-term employment and housing, and arrived at Project Hope fearful and depressed. Case managers linked the man to services; he was rehoused, obtained a job adapted to his disability and later visited the nonprofit’s welcome-home center to collect furnishings. “That was a true blessing to see that he went from being utterly depressed and despondent … to being gainfully employed and successfully housed,” Burr said.
Commissioners thanked Project Hope for its work. Commissioner Beverage noted the organization’s daily operations and the need for continued support; one commissioner congratulated Project Hope on its 33rd anniversary and mentioned an open house on the last Friday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
The recognition occurred without public comment on the agenda. The board proceeded to routine business after the presentation.
