Students and PTAs spotlight fundraisers, prom and service work at Murray School District meeting

At the March 12 meeting of the Murray School District Board of Education a series of student speakers and PTA/union representatives highlighted upcoming fundraisers, service activities and staff-appreciation efforts.
Kylie, Hillrest Junior High PTSA president, said the PTSA is supporting a student-council volleyball tournament fundraiser at the end of April and described a successful 'Swig day' fundraiser. “Kids and soda is the best thing ever,” Kylie said, thanking staff and volunteers for their support.
Aaron Adams, Murray High PTSA president, said the PTSA will give out almost 200 cinnamon rolls to teachers and staff on St. Patrick’s Day to show appreciation; he introduced student-body officers who then shared school activities. Maggie Daly, a senior and SBO historian, described the winter charity program — which included a silent auction, a 'Murray's Got Talent' event and a $5 buzz-cut fundraiser — and said the program helped a Make‑A‑Wish recipient named Livia and engaged the broader community.
Other student speakers included Lily Matsamorei, who noted district use of Zoom after the fire helped maintain learning; Asher Godfrey, who praised staff and MAG for moving Spring Fling to the gym so seniors would still have a final full-school dance; Ethan Remington, who highlighted leadership camp work with elementary students; and Lucy Vik, who described junior-prom preparations for April 4.
Jessica De Man reported for the MEA and thanked district leadership for conducting a staff-placement survey for 2027–28 and noted that Crystal Norman will attend a leadership summit in Chicago. Doug Perry of the Murray Education Foundation summarized recent fundraising through the Pinnacle Awards (raising about $5,000 more than last year), thanked Intermountain Health for hosting and said MEF will be the beneficiary of an April 16 'Stuff the Truck' donation drive to stock school pantries at Parkside, Hillrest and Murray High.
The board thanked the student leaders for their resiliency and service following recent disruptions and applauded the community for support during the fire response. Many student remarks centered on community-building and gratitude for staff and volunteers.
Next steps: student and PTSA organizers will proceed with the described events; MEF’s donation drive is scheduled for April 16, 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the FFRK parking lot.
