The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation voted March 17 to authorize the city administrator to negotiate and execute a one-year lease for office space at 21499 EVA Street Suite B to house the incoming assistant director for the EDC. Board members said the lease includes two free months and an all-inclusive monthly rate covering utilities, trash and maintenance.
Staff told the board the EDC budget can cover the rental costs for the next six months without changing current appropriations; members said they will re-evaluate these expenses during the September budget process and decide whether to adjust subsidies or reassign office-space costs at that time. The packet materials provided to the board included the current monthly charge, which staff said was all-inclusive.
Board members discussed logistics including furniture left by the former Chamber of Commerce, the absence of required build-out work, and whether the monthly rate represented fair market value; staff said the landlord offered two months free and that the interior is ready for immediate occupancy. A motion to authorize execution of the lease was made and seconded and carried by voice vote (no roll-call tally was recorded in the public minutes).
The lease is intended to provide immediate workspace for the incoming assistant director, who was reported to start mid-April, with staff preparing to revisit office-space assignments and budget adjustments during the next fiscal-budget cycle.
