Superintendent Dr. Iba told the board the existing pit sits at an angle from the end zone, creating inconsistent visual cues for athletes and disadvantaging right-handed jumpers and visiting competitors. "It becomes a safety issue," Dr. Iba said, describing how the current layout can force jumpers to begin on turf and then contact a low curb and track surface during their approach.
Dr. Iba said the work will not exceed $39,335 and that the district plans to use fundraising account dollars — he noted about $67,000 remained in the account — so no general-fund dollars would be used. The proposal was presented as an action item; Miss Hafner moved, Mr. Miko seconded, and the motion passed on a roll-call vote.
Board members did not request further changes to the plan in the public session. The board approved the contract authorization and will proceed with vendor arrangements to schedule the work.
