“Members, the house is now in session,” the presiding officer said, then asked the clerk to follow the roll. The clerk conducted roll call to establish a legislative day.
Pastor Ronnie Wilson, the House chaplain, offered a prayer citing John 16:33. Representative Cantrell then led the chamber in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The presiding officer told members and the public that the purpose of gaveling in was to allow the clerk’s desk to be open today, tomorrow and Wednesday so the chamber could continue handling legislation while awaiting the return of the Senate. “We plan to open our clerk’s desk, today, tomorrow, and Wednesday,” the presiding officer said, adding the House would reconvene to take up legislation as the Senate returns.
Mister Foley, the floor leader, reiterated scheduling details for the week and confirmed, “Thursday, we will be in at 09:30.”
With no further announcements, the presiding officer adjourned the House until 1:30 p.m. the following day.
