Murrieta Valley board highlights student programs: fire science/EMT and nationally ranked band

The Murrieta Valley Unified School District board heard student presentations from two high school programs and formally recognized their achievements.
Murrieta Valley High School’s Fire Science and EMT pathway was presented as a career-focused program that offers Fire Science 1–3 and an EMT course enabling some students to earn EMT certification before graduation. Principal Stephen Deep House and program leaders (Chiefs Drew and Mitch Snider) described hands-on training and recent graduate hires, and student Avery Hazelar told trustees she expects to enter the fire service immediately after high school.
Vista High School’s band, color guard and percussion leaders described a program that has placed at Bands of America and other national competitions. Student leaders said the program aims to increase recruitment, raise performance scores and reach a target BOA score of 90. Trustees praised the students’ professionalism and the hours the programs require.
The presentations were part of the board’s retooled meeting format to showcase student work at the start of the school year and were followed by trustee comments praising the programs’ contributions to student opportunities and campus safety.
