Fire district reports surge in HIZ assessments; rebates expanded to encourage mitigation

The district described changes intended to increase homeowner follow-through: assessment reports can be re-accessed and updated by residents, the rebate window has been extended to two years (allowing up to two rebate applications based on a single assessment, with a maximum of $3,000 per year), and the district is doing targeted mailings, social-media pushes and in-person outreach through committee leaders and community events. The liaison said the district will include HIZ data and follow-up survey results in the February semiannual report and noted that program records are private; tracking completed work relies on residents updating their private HIZ reports.
The district also previewed a 2026 preparedness calendar of in-person and hybrid classes (monthly topics ranging from family plans to go‑bags and wildfire preparedness) and said staff will pursue collaboration on evacuation drills with neighboring jurisdictions.
