License commission signs off on dozens of special‑event and one‑day alcohol permits

At its April 2 meeting the Lowell License Commission approved a series of special‑event and one‑day alcohol licenses and amplified‑sound permits for community groups, nonprofits and local businesses.

City Cultural Affairs presented six amplified outdoor events for 2026 — centennial concerts on Palmer Street, a Spring Busker Festival, Greater Lowell Pride at Sampas Pavilion, Independence Day programming at Latcha Park, Monster Bash/Fall Fest at a parking lot on Merrimack Street, and the City of Lights at City Hall — and the commission approved all six.

One‑day alcohol licenses were granted to a range of nonprofits and campus hosts: Indivisible Lowell (amplification for a rally at Carowack Park), the Lowell Humane Society fundraiser at Lowell Masonic Hall, St. Michael’s Parish spring fundraiser, UKG’s employee 5K, several UMass Lowell receptions and concerts, the Merrimack Repertory Theater’s Town in the City events, the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church Grecian Festival, and multiple private events at the Hellenic Center. The commission also approved a charity paint‑and‑sip event benefiting Black Cat Rescue and a secondhand goods license for Susie Q’s Vintage.

Commissioners noted TIP‑certified bartenders or appropriate tip certification for events where alcohol will be served, and conditioned certain approvals on standard licensing requirements. No formal objections were raised for these routine items and the votes were unanimous.
