Hawthorne Council approves consent agenda, awards fall tree contract and funds new fire vehicle

The Hawthorne Borough Council approved its consent agenda Sept. 17, adopting resolutions R150-25 through R154-25 including a contract award for fall tree planting and the purchase of a vehicle for the Hawthorne Fire Department.
Mayor Lane and Administrator Eric Mau presented the slate of routine items. Administrator Mau said R154-25 awards the fall planting contract to SCJ Lawn Care as the low bidder and that references and prequalification checks were completed. He said the contractor, the Shade Tree Commission and the borough arborist will meet next week to start the project. Mau briefed the council that the contractor’s two-year maintenance bond will cover early replacements for any trees that fail.
R153-25, the budgeted purchase of a fire department vehicle, was included on the consent list and carried after roll-call. The council record shows one abstention recorded specifically for R153-25; the motion otherwise carried. The council then approved other routine items on the consent agenda, including membership in a cooperative purchasing network to secure pricing on DPW equipment and renewal of cybersecurity services for municipal networks.
The council also approved correspondence appointing Gabriella Scanel to Tower Two in the Hawthorne Fire Department. That item carried after roll call; the meeting record shows one member abstained from the fire appointment vote.
The council set its next regular meeting for Oct. 1, 2025, at 7 p.m.
