Superintendent outlines Measure S projects and summer technology upgrades

At the July 29 meeting, Superintendent Dr. Nicole Wesley and cabinet staff provided a multi-site update on Measure S projects funded by the $278 million bond passed by voters.
Dr. Alpurn described visible roofing work at multiple campuses and said the board had authorized about $9 million for roofing improvements; most roofing work was expected to be substantially complete within weeks of the meeting. Fencing upgrades to increase perimeter heights and privacy screening were under way at several elementary campuses with a target to finish by the winter holidays. The district is also replacing or upgrading playground structures and surfacing; staff said students will vote this fall on pre-vetted equipment options drawn from risk-management and vendor reviews.
Susanna Garcia briefed the board on technology infrastructure work: student Chromebooks have arrived and distribution plans are set for both elementary and secondary registration; the district has moved to cloud-based phone systems at several sites and was replacing IDF cabling and phones to improve security and communications. Staff said the phone rollout was roughly 65% complete and additional infrastructure work at Lincoln and Paris schools should finish in early August.
Wesley thanked the community for passing Measure S and said the district will continue to update the public on timelines and site-specific progress. School leaders and board members praised facilities, IT and maintenance staff for summer work that aims to have campuses ready for the coming school year.
