The Pathways Committee discussed a long-running Matadero Creek code-enforcement issue and received updates on maintenance and signage.
Staff member Jay summarized a case in which a property fence and overgrowth have blocked a recorded pathway easement; Jay said staff could research prior committee records and invite former committee members to discuss historical use before bringing the property owner and current committee back together. Committee members noted past enforcement actions are infrequent and that legal involvement can be slow and costly.
On maintenance, Mike, the town’s maintenance lead, reported spring mowing, brushing and regrading schedules, and said crews will be out more often between April and June to regrade and trim paths and to raise low branches. Committee members asked staff to prioritize safety signage at steep crests and busy crossings; Mike said the town has advisory signs in stock and can deploy them quickly.
On other business, staff briefed the committee on the need for a minimal design to finish a CEQA initial study for Maple Leaf Court and on ongoing coordination with property attorneys for compliance matters. The committee approved forwarding the Magdalena Road project to council and agreed on several follow-up site visits and outreach tasks for staff.
