USD 469 bond questions fail in Leavenworth County canvass; provisional ballots do not change outcome

The Leavenworth County Board of County Canvasers on reconvening confirmed that both questions in the USD 469 school bond election failed and formally accepted the canvass finding.

County election staff reported 2,676 total votes initially cast and said seven of 19 provisional ballots were accepted for counting because voters had moved within the district or voted at the wrong precinct. After those ballots were counted, staff reported the outcome remained unchanged. For question one, the final tally was 198 yes and 1,583 no. For question two, the final tally was 890 yes and 1,786 no.

The clerk told the board that five mail ballots received Wednesday were ineligible because they were not received by election day. The board moved, seconded, and voted to accept the clerk’s recommendation to include the seven eligible provisional ballots in the count and later voted to accept the canvass finding as presented.

There was no further challenge to the certification during the meeting; the board returned to its regular session afterward. The clerk said she would prepare the final report for signature and file the official canvass documents according to statutory requirements.

Next steps: staff will finalize and circulate the signed canvass documents. No additional board action was taken at the meeting on the bond results.
