The Minnetonka Sustainability Commission on March 17 selected recipients of its 2026 Sustainable Minnetonka awards after reviewing a record 17 applications and approved nominee recognitions for several other entrants.
Chair Golub opened the meeting and turned the awards presentation over to city staff member Helena Sutherland, who said the program recognizes projects that promote climate resilience, protect natural resources and encourage community adoption of sustainability practices. "In 2026, we received 17 applications," Sutherland told the commissioners, noting the program now separates resident and business awards and uses a four-criteria private scoring sheet.
The commission approved multiple special-recognition awards and nominee awards across categories. In the children’s category the commission moved unanimously to give special recognition to both Shu Peng, a Scenic Heights Elementary student who researched the energy and water use of hockey rinks and created outreach materials, and Winston Hague, a local…
