The Lennox council approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of a vacuum trailer using a Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract after staff said the unit is budgeted for 2026 and will help with water‑service valve access, wastewater plant cleaning and other maintenance tasks.
Kyle, who answered council questions on the item, said cooperative procurement was recommended because the purchase exceeds state bid thresholds and Sourcewell is a recognized cooperative that can be used under state rules. He described practical uses of the unit, including making valves accessible during main breaks and cleaning wastewater plant equipment when power access is limited. "I just think we get such a wide variety of uses for it. It's necessary for keeping our system maintained and improved," Kyle said.
Council discussed rental versus purchase; staff noted renting was an option but that owning the unit ensures availability for multi‑month maintenance tasks and avoids scheduling conflicts. After discussion the council moved, seconded and approved the resolution authorizing the purchase and the use of a cooperative procurement exemption.
Staff will finalize purchasing paperwork and coordinate delivery and training as needed.
