Lennox council approves consent agenda; garbage‑hauler applicant outlines valet service

The City of Lennox council approved the consent agenda Tuesday evening, which included routine contract awards, a police radio equipment purchase, a wastewater treatment diffuser project and the announced retirement of part‑time librarian Marlene Adams.

Nate, a city staff member, told the council the 2026 slurry seal contract came in slightly under budget and that one wastewater project was slightly over budget and therefore on consent for council approval. He said the new part‑time librarian resignation would be added to consent item 3.9.

During the consent discussion the applicant for a commercial garbage hauler license spoke to the council. "We're going to offer a little bit of different... the valet service — give people an option so they don't have to bring their hands to the curb," Randy said, describing a service that uses smaller, lighter trucks he says will be easier on local streets. He told the council he is awaiting Lincoln County and city permits and hopes to begin service April 1.

Council members asked about truck size and the potential for additional truck traffic; Randy said his operation would use smaller trucks tailored to residential routes. After questions were answered the council moved, seconded and carried the consent agenda on roll call.

The council did not discuss any substantive changes to the consent items beyond acknowledgement of the librarian retirement and the presence of the garbage‑hauler applicant. Next steps for the applicant are final county and city licensing and any inspections the city requires.
