District staff presented details of an expanded Community Night and accompanying health and wellness fair scheduled for March 12. Brian Shaw, who presented the marketing update to the board, said signups have increased from roughly 52 last year to more than 70 this year and that organizers have secured 25-plus community partners for screenings, demonstrations and interactive activities.
Shaw said the event will be held at the high school so organizers can showcase facility updates and accommodate more activities. Planned offerings include art exhibits, theater, choir and band performances, instrument "try-outs" to recruit students to band, a health-and-wellness area with fitness, nutrition and screenings, food trucks and an activities area with a stamp-card prize system for kids.
Dr. Bennett and staff described the fair as both a community service (preventive health information and screening access) and a recruitment/showcase opportunity to help families learn about district programs. The board and staff encouraged social-media promotion and noted logistical details such as staff parking and traffic control during the event.
The presentation included lighthearted operational details (Shaw said he ordered 80 pounds of candy for giveaways) and a reminder that staff will be photographing students and families in the lobby after presentations.
