The Sierra County Board of Supervisors authorized a contract to repair storm damage on County Road 490 (Brandy City Road), awarding the work to Hanson Brothers at a low bid of $457,323.25.
Public Works staff said the department received six bids, with other proposals exceeding $900,000. “Hanson Brothers came in at $457,323.25, significantly lower than other bids,” a staff member reported. The staff explanation attributed most of the savings to lower mobilization costs because the contractor is local.
Board members said they were comfortable with the proposed contractor and the price differential after staff explained the cost drivers. The board approved a notice to proceed and the contract award by roll-call vote.
Staff indicated the work is tied to ongoing North Yuba partnership operations and is intended to repair embankment and roadway shoulder damage at the specified location; a notice to proceed will be issued to the contractor.
