Council awards $1.43 million road rehabilitation and $392,000 water-main extension

The Wixom City Council authorized two infrastructure contracts Tuesday: a road rehabilitation contract for the Hillsboro and Milstream subdivisions and a water-main extension for Gunner Matella Park.
Public Works staff recommended awarding the Hillsboro/Milstream rehabilitation project to Allied Construction Company Inc. of Clarkston for an amount not to exceed $1,425,760.80. The scope includes drainage work, catch-basin repairs, curb-and-gutter and shoulder work; the contract covers multiple streets including portions of Castlewood. Council discussion focused on maintaining resident access during construction and a traffic-control plan; the project manager said the contractor will submit a traffic-control plan and staff will hold an April open house to address resident concerns.
Separately, the council accepted a bid from D'Angelo Brothers Inc. (Farmington Hills) for a water-main extension at Gunner Matella Park, not to exceed $391,842, with Hubble Roth and Clark to provide construction engineering for up to $33,900. Staff said the project will improve water resiliency by creating a looped main and that HDPE pipe is planned to extend useful life. Both bids were approved by roll call and will proceed to contract execution by the DPW director.
No additional council votes were required beyond the motions to award and to authorize the DPW to sign agreements; staff said final scheduling and resident outreach will be provided before construction begins.
