Wixom council hears status updates on Mac Park, Gunnar Matella restroom installation

Parks staff (identified in discussion as Deanna McGee, director of parks and recreation) told council the drinking fountain ordered for Mac Park is being processed, landscaping is being coordinated with a Trailway volunteer committee (John Hler was named as working with that committee), and benches planned for the park have been installed. City staff said concrete slabs on site are intended for a donor wall and that the city still needs to install irrigation. Staff noted that concrete work could not be performed over winter and would proceed in spring and that additional finishing items should be visible by May.
On Gunnar Matella, staff said the restroom building will arrive the weekend following the meeting and installation work will begin, with concrete for pavilions and additional bench installation to follow as weather permits. Council discussed replacing a trampled protective fence at one park and agreed staff should pursue reasonable safety measures.
Councilmembers generally praised recently installed signage around town and thanked long-serving staff, including Deanna McGee for 28 years of service. Council asked staff to provide an update before the local school district meets on April 9 about shared concerns for the Maple Road property.
Staff remarks were recorded during the city manager’s departmental report and in response to Council member Berman’s questions. Council did not take formal action on parks items at the meeting.
