EDA gets update on Richardson Road access grant, broker proposals; historic survey and rezoning dates announced

The Amelia County Economic Development Authority received updates on several local projects at its January meeting, including the Richardson Road Park access‑road planning grant and related marketing activity.
Staff said the access‑road planning grant application will be presented to the Commonwealth Transportation Board in February by Jonathan Liss, director of the access‑road program, and that, if the CTB approves the request, the county could be under contract for detailed design work as early as March. The board was told the planning grant and related design work are expected to be in the $5,000–$6,000 range for initial tasks discussed by staff.
EDA members were also informed that three commercial real‑estate broker proposals were received as of the previous day; staff will review the proposals and bring recommendations to the EDA for how to market the property more actively within the Richmond area.
On other agenda items, staff described the Boons (Main Street) project: Hill Studio and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources will collect historical information and community input to support a National Register nomination, and a public kickoff for property owners was tentatively scheduled for Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Separately, a rezoning request for acreage across Richardson Road (intended to allow a small number of family houses while preserving road frontage for business) will be reviewed by the planning commission on Jan. 26.
Board members also discussed the business appreciation lunch and tentatively set the event for Wednesday, May 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; staff will coordinate with partners and bring a proposed budget back at the next meeting.
What happens next: staff will present VDOT/CTB materials in February and return to the EDA with a recommendation on the commercial broker selection; several calendar items (historic‑survey kickoff, planning commission hearing, and the business appreciation lunch) were scheduled for follow‑up and public notice.
