Saratoga honors Successful Aging Solutions and recognizes local science-fair winners

Mayor Page proclaimed February as Senior Independence Month and presented a proclamation recognizing Successful Aging Solutions (SASSY) for services that support older adults and caregivers in Saratoga.

Tyler Taylor, CEO of Successful Aging Solutions, summarized SASSY’s programs — including the Saratoga Senior Center, Adult Care Center, Bridal Senior Transportation Program and the Senior Guided Pathways program at West Valley College — and thanked the council for support. Residents and organizational representatives, including a branch president of the California Writers Club, caregivers, and program participants, described how the center provides transportation, individualized care and social connection that they said helps older adults remain safe and engaged.

Later the council recognized local winners from the Santa Clara Valley Science and Engineering Fair. Several high‑school and middle‑school students described projects ranging from an AI retinal test for early Alzheimer’s detection to a low‑cost rabies detection kit, algae cultivation methods for bioethanol, mushroom‑assisted plastic degradation, a soil‑moisture‑driven sprinkler, a motorized dog wheelchair and an AI‑powered low‑cost hearing aid with 94% accuracy. Board member Forrest Williams commended the students and emphasized the local importance of STEM education.

The proclamation and recognition were ceremonial actions; no council votes were required. The council invited the SASSY staff and science-fair participants to be photographed with members of the council.
