Minnetonka council approves three sidewalk and road contracts totaling about $3.23 million

City project manager Mr. Manchester presented three competitive-bid recommendations and the council approved all three contract awards in a single meeting.

He recommended awarding Project 23607 (Red Circle Drive sidewalk improvements) to Clark Companies for $299,857.40 and authorized the city engineer to expend funds without further council approval provided total project cost does not exceed a $600,000 budget. The project includes an 8-foot sidewalk, storm sewer and road improvements and easement-related sign relocation.

Project 26607 (Shady Oak Road sidewalk improvements) was also recommended to Clark Companies for $199,977, with a project budget cap of $425,000; work includes sidewalk widening, a 4-foot boulevard, storm improvements and pedestrian-signal modifications coordinated with Hennepin County.

Project 26609 (Cedar Lake Road and Ridgedale Drive improvements) was presented with a low bid from Park Construction Company of $2,731,859.51 and a project budget cap of $4,700,000. That project includes a 2-inch mill and overlay in multiple sections, signal replacements, curb and sidewalk repairs, striping, shoulder and bike-lane additions, and other improvements timed to minimize disruption to school operations.

Council approved the awards by roll call. Staff noted projects are funded through TIF and budget allocations; construction start dates were described as spring/summer with communications and email updates to affected residents.

Why it matters: the contracts fund pedestrian and safety upgrades and road resurfacing planned to improve connectivity, traffic calming and pedestrian access in several parts of Minnetonka; the council authorized the city engineer to manage within the stated project budgets.
