Gulf County says out-of-state vandals will return to apologize and make restitution

Gulf County commissioners and staff said they met with the state attorney about a vandalism incident in which several signs were stolen and county property damaged. County officials reported that suspects from Missouri are expected to return in the coming weeks to plead, make restitution and complete community service.
A county official summarized the outcome of the meeting with the state attorney: the suspects "are coming back in the next few weeks, and they will be pleading to that. They're gonna make restitution. They're going to appear before the county commission, probably at your May regular county commission meeting to apologize. They're gonna do 40 hours of community service with the TDC and the public works." The official characterized the meeting as productive and said the restitution amount appears to be "a little under 3" (thousand dollars).
County staff said they would follow up and, if necessary, hold a special meeting to allow the individuals to apologize individually. The sheriff said he was "glad they have to come back and be held accountable right here in Gulf County."
