Gulf County rejects Salinas Park dune restoration bids; staff to re-advertise after scope changes

Gulf County commissioners voted to reject the bids received for Bid 25-26-12, a Salinas Park dune restoration project, after staff reported bids came in approximately $200,000 over the county's budget estimate.
Smallwood told the board the bids were over the county's grant amount and recommended rejecting them and re-advertising with an adjusted scope. The chair called for discussion and commissioners agreed to consider changing the sand specification and breaking parts of the project out to make it more attainable for bidders.
Resident George Pizzolia addressed the commission during public comment and said the project could be split into three parts to attract more bidders: "1 would be the dune restoration. The second part would be the landscaping or the reforestation. And then third part would be the culvert underneath the road." Commissioners said landscaping could be separated from building the dune and will brainstorm scope changes before re-advertising.
Commissioners moved and seconded to reject the bids; the board voted to reject and re-advertise the project unanimously, recorded as "Motion passed 5 and 0."
