Patchogue‑Medford 10th grader Haley Ray named Girls Inc. of Long Island Girl of the Year

The Patchogue‑Medford Board of Education meeting on Nov. 17 opened with a recognition of Haley Ray, a 10th‑grade student at Patchogue‑Medford High School, who was named the 2025 Girls Inc. of Long Island Girl of the Year.
At the podium, Mrs. Morowski and Girls Inc. staff described Ray’s academic record and program participation. "She first joined Girls Inc. last year as a quiet ninth grader... she possessed strong leadership qualities," the presenters said, noting Ray’s involvement in AP and honors courses and her role in Girls Inc. activities that included a Teen Tech Council initiative and a Girls Who Build summer program.
Paige Delnik, identified as a program manager at Girls Inc. of Long Island, said Ray had taken part in state‑level advocacy and leadership opportunities and had spoken about mental‑health issues and inclusion during Girls Inc. meetings. Delnik described Ray’s growth from a hesitant participant to a student who mentors peers and "demonstrated exceptional commitment and achievement." The presenters invited the board and community to support Girls Inc. programming in the district.
Board members and audience members congratulated Ray and the Girls Inc. presenters; the meeting followed the recognition with a group photo.
The board moved on to other agenda items after the presentation. The district’s slides from the meeting, including the Girls Inc. recognition, will be available to the board and public.
