Tiburon task force recommends funding for spring and cultural festivals, asks council to approve Junth increment

The task force unanimously recommended funding for the Nor spring celebration, with organizer Nora proposing an April 25 event at Linsky and a budget 'about' $10,000. "It's been successful in both locations on Main Street and Zalinski," Nora said, adding organizers were flexible about programming and logistics.
Ann Marie Suan presented the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Festival proposal for Saturday, May 16, 1–4 p.m. at Silinsky Park and asked the group to recommend $10,000 in support. Suan said the organizers applied for and received a $1,000 grant from the Tiburon Peninsula Foundation to supplement the budget. "We're hoping to increase awareness in Marin," she said.
A speaker identified as a rabbi, presenting the Tiburon Jewish Festival proposal, asked the task force to recommend $8,000 toward a festival budget she put between $15,000 and $18,000; she said hundreds of attendees participated in prior years.
On Junth (the sixth annual festival), organizers described plans for a Lower Main Street event with music, a Buffalo Soldiers historical presentation and youth programming. Staff member Lee clarified that the Town Council had already allocated $10,000 toward Junth but that organizers were seeking an additional roughly $3,200 to meet a total estimated budget of about $13,000. The task force voted to recommend the incremental request of $3,155.52 be forwarded to the council so organizers could finalize plans.
Members debated whether a flat $10,000 cap for events promotes fairness or whether flexibility is needed for events with higher production costs (sound, staging, vendor fees). Several members urged continued fundraising and grant-seeking to cover overages; staff reiterated the task force's role is recommendatory and that the Council holds final budget authority.
The task force approved the recommendations by show of hands; minutes record assent and no opposition in each vote but do not list individual vote tallies.
The recommendations will be forwarded to the Town Council for final approval. The task force also discussed — without votes — a proposed multicultural program to coordinate programming across events and a "Summer of Love" community concert proposal for August.
