Votes at a glance: Anson County actions on fees, transport partnership, grants and property sales

At its March 3 meeting the Anson County Board of Commissioners approved several administrative and service actions by voice votes. These approvals were procedural in nature but have operational and financial implications:

• Record-rotation fee increase: The board approved a committee recommendation to raise record-rotation (basic tow) charges by 40% to better align with comparable Highway Patrol–approved rates. The motion was made and seconded and passed by voice vote.

• Atrium Health convalescent transport: The board approved participation in a partnership with Atrium Health under which Atrium would purchase a sprinter-style nonemergency convalescent transport vehicle for county use. The county will be responsible for stocking equipment (estimated $150,000–$175,000) and staffing the vehicle (estimated labor cost roughly $240,000/year). EMS Director Brian Nance estimated revenue potential at about $400,000 per year if operations reach roughly 800 transports annually; staff said it could take up to two years to reach full utilization. The board approved moving forward with the arrangement.

• Asset inventory and asset-management grant: Commissioners approved staff to submit a grant application (estimated $90,000–$100,000 scope) for an asset inventory and management plan and to begin the grant process if awarded.

• Surplus property sale: The board approved a resolution authorizing sale of two parcels that previously housed county utilities operations; the properties will be listed on GovDeals beginning April 20 for 45 days with a minimum bid of $40,000.
