Missoula County staff requested March 26 that commissioners sign a letter of support for a $50,000 T‑Mobile Hometown Grant to fund the Hello Kitty Trail extension at Marshall Mountain in east Missoula.
The T‑Mobile program awards up to $50,000 to community placemaking and rural development projects. Staff said the Mountain Bike Coalition has already raised money for the Hello Kitty Trail extension and the county is applying to shore up the project’s funding. "We're asking for $50,000," staff said, and noted the application turnaround is two months with decisions expected in early June.
Presenters described Hello Kitty as a locally recognized trail name and said there are decorative Hello Kitty statues at the trailhead. Commissioners asked whether T‑Mobile provides service locally; staff confirmed network presence in the area. Staff said they will follow up with the county's signature process for the grant letters.
