The policy (BP/AR 1445) tightens limits on workplace and campus access by immigration-enforcement agents, requires notification to the superintendent and the board if enforcement occurs, and restricts the collection or retention of information that would indicate a person's immigration status. The policy also directs the superintendent to develop procedures and training for staff.
During discussion, some board members asked for language clarifications to ensure staff would not face discipline for nonviolent acts taken to protect students. The board approved a set of targeted amendments clarifying that staff should not physically obstruct lawful officers, and directed legal counsel to reconcile final wording with the underlying statute. The motion passed unanimously.
The district said the policy implements state guidance enacted in AB 49 and will be distributed to sites and employees; staff will follow up with required training and procedural documents.
