The board approved an extensive personnel slate that included coaching appointments and resignations, professional hires (including a small number through alternative certification), multiple unpaid leaves, substitute appointments, and transfers associated with the district's K–5 reconfiguration. Human-resources staff said the packet included 128 combined professional, service and substitute actions for the meeting.
During the personnel presentation the board announced the appointment of Carrie Zimmerman as the new principal of Mountain Ridge Intermediate School; Zimmerman briefly introduced herself and described her background in administration and her four children who attend Berkeley County Schools. Board members welcomed Zimmerman and said staff had already introduced her to Mountain Ridge teachers earlier in the day.
HR staff described their approach to internal posting and transfer (Policy 5000), noting principals worked through seniority lists and met with affected staff individually to discuss options, and that the district will hand-deliver transfer letters and provide personal follow-ups to minimize stress.
