Board awards $15.8 million contract for Enwood Early Learning Academy; project remains under full budget estimate

The board voted to accept the apparent low bid for the Enwood (Inwood) Early Learning Academy and authorized contract award to Myers Building Systems. Mr. Tyson reported the low base bid at $15,782,000 and, after three alternates (HVAC controls, repurposed light poles credit and perimeter/site fencing), the total with alternates came to $15,817,200. Tyson said that including furniture, soft costs and contingency the district's estimate of total project cost is approximately $17.9 million and that the project remains within the bond budget.
The score of contractors who bid on the project and the presence of recent work by the same contractor (Myers) on a Tomahawk addition were cited by staff as favorable indicators. Board members asked about fencing scope, playground access during construction and the planned ceremonial groundbreaking. The board approved the award and the alternates during the meeting.
