Trustees used the March 26 meeting to ask for more detail about bond spending and the process for installing classroom cameras requested for special-education settings.
Staff presented a prerecorded Community Bond Oversight Committee report and said a bridge document and an April deep dive on bond finances would follow. A trustee asked what would happen to bond dollars for campuses that close; staff said surpluses are identified, reviewed by the CBOC and returned to the board for action, and suggested one option could be to have dollars follow displaced students or invest in receiving campuses.
On classroom cameras, trustees asked how many families had requested cameras for special-education classrooms, how many had been granted, and how quickly installations could occur. Administration said there had been 12 requests so far this year, 11 approved and one denied, and cited earlier years’ counts (14 requests/14 approved in 2024–25; 15/15 in 2023–24). Trustees and staff discussed the cost and feasibility trade-offs between pre-wiring classrooms during construction and responding to individual requests; administration said wiring every classroom to preempt requests can be more costly than installing cameras on demand.
Trustees asked staff to provide a clear accounting of how much of the bond allocation for cameras (a line-item that staff said had been collapsed into a $5 million grouping) has been used, and to report metrics showing installation turnaround times to demonstrate responsiveness.
