District leaders updated the board on transition activities tied to planned campus closures and student transfers for the 2026–27 school year.
A district transition lead told trustees the team completed about 50 check-ins and site visits since January to provide individualized campus support and coordinate operational logistics including transportation, IT and instructional materials. The team reported ongoing campus walk-throughs and release of a transition checklist; a working “transition booklet” (version 1) was slated to be shared the week after the meeting and refined over time.
Administration said 61% of families who filled out the transition survey were either fully registered or in progress; staff outlined a plan to reach the remaining families via targeted phone-banking and campus outreach. Trustees asked about the discrepancy between 3,374 impacted students and 1,857 survey respondents; administration said many families accepted assigned schools and therefore did not complete optional surveys, and committed to producing campus-level engagement plans and clearer interim metrics.
On staffing, administration said the internal transfer window had opened and that 68% of impacted staff had secured positions as of March 23; about 397 placements were still pending and the district projected roughly 300 vacancies remaining ahead of an external job fair scheduled for April 11.
Trustees pressed for regular, easy-to-read updates (percentages and campus breakdowns) and suggested adding enrollment QR codes and coordinated community volunteers to help contact families. Administration agreed to provide more granular, campus-by-campus metrics and to present an action plan for outreach before the next board meeting.
The board did not take a formal vote during the update; trustees requested continued reporting and a follow-up on enrollment projections at the board’s next meeting.
