Truckucky Meadows pins new firefighters, names fire marshal and introduces finance staff; IAFF highlights charity golf tournament

Division Chief Joe Shum introduced five firefighters who completed their probationary year on Feb. 24, 2026 and recognized family members who pinned personalized badges. Shum said the cohort began an academy in October 2024 and completed an 18‑week academy followed by a 365‑day probation period.

Shum introduced each firefighter with background notes: Corey Acriman (U.S. Air Force veteran; paramedic), Brock Harmon (wildland experience and hot-shot crews), Kyle Harris (paramedic background), Riley Rzzer (Spanish Springs High School graduate; paramedic training) and Thomas Witzman (wildland experience and advanced EMT). Families and partners pinned badges during the ceremony.

Chief Edwards also introduced logistics staff James Flynn (pinned by his father, Captain Kevin Flint) and welcomed Jenny Williamson as the new fire marshal; Williamson said she brings more than 20 years of experience in fire prevention and most recently worked as a plans reviewer at the state fire marshal’s office. Finance staff Simona Pardon (accounts and payroll specialist) and Rachel McFarland (accounts receivable and grant specialist) were introduced as completing probation; McFarland was noted as handling billing tied to HMGP and wildland responses.

Separately, Mark Thy, president of IAFF Local 2487, thanked commissioners for recent meetings and promoted the 14th annual Guns & Hoses golf tournament in April, saying proceeds benefit the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation. He also expressed pride in instructing at the recent academy and in the new firefighters who completed probation.

What’s next: The board recessed briefly for a group photograph and then returned to the regular agenda. No formal personnel actions were taken during the recognition item.
