Superintendent Aaron provided context on statewide funding uncertainty, saying lawmakers are debating about how to use roughly $2.4 billion in additional state funds and that districts had not seen a guaranteed increase in general state aid, which complicates local budgeting.
Board members and staff debated timing and fiscal prudence. One trustee said the district should be “extremely conservative” given unpredictable costs such as fuel, while others noted the positions had been discussed previously and were promised to the community if a referendum passed. Administrators said the math role responds to ongoing demand and possible future state requirements for progress monitoring and interventions; they recommended posting the position to start July 1 so the new hire could train over the summer.
On the administrative assistant, the board heard that the position previously held duties including payroll, benefits administration and recurring state and federal reporting. Administrators said outsourcing payroll offered limited savings and would not replace on-site benefits support. The board discussed whether the role could be done part time but was told the learning curve for payroll and benefits made a full-time hire more feasible.
The motions passed by roll call. The motion to add the elementary math interventionist passed unanimously. The motion to add the administrative assistant passed with two board members voting no; other trustees voted yes.
Next steps: administrators will post the new positions for internal and external candidates and pursue hiring to have the roles in place for the 2026-27 school year.
