City says Mobile Greenway segments nearing completion; underpass planned beneath trestle

City staff updated the Mobile City Council on March 17 about progress on the seven-and-a-half-mile Mobile Greenway trail.
Jennifer (Miss Green) told council the program has worked across more than 100 parcels to assemble the trail and that Segment 5 is 99% complete on real-estate acquisitions. She said Segment 2 has construction funding through a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant and that the federal review process (including Restore Act/Treasury review) is the principal uncertainty for schedule. Staff estimated it may take roughly 6–9 months to move through remaining federal steps in some areas.
Council accepted a deed from Patricia Davis Farr for property needed for Three Mile Creek segment 2 as part of the CIP Mobile Greenway initiative. Staff also described plans to construct a protective underpass beneath a heavily used railroad trestle between segments 1 and 2; the crossing will be nonmotorized (pedestrians and bicycles) and staff said the underpass is designed and that the railroad has cooperated on negotiations.
Staff said segment 7 (from MLK to the Tricentennial Park connection) has completed real estate and is already in federal review, making it likely to move to construction sooner than other segments. Council expressed support and asked for continued updates as real-estate transactions and federal reviews conclude.
