Council hears clarification on Airbus project amendment; staff says no new city incentives

Staff said: “this doesn’t change the incentive that’s been given... all that’s locked in.” They noted the original $10 million incentive commitment tied to the Brookley campus remains in effect and that the amendment allows that commitment to apply across the defined project site, which now includes additional leased MAA parcels.
Council members sought simpler, bulleted explanations and asked staff to clarify whether the $700 million figure in the packet referred to MAA capital investment, Airbus investment, or a combination. Staff reiterated the land is MAA land under a ground lease and that Airbus’s commitments remain tied to the original project agreement; they offered to provide clearer documentation and bullet points to avoid confusion.
No change in incentive amounts was proposed at the pre-meeting; council asked for follow-up materials before taking final action.
