Councilman Woods moves to table Mobile Museum Board management agreement for ordinance alignment

Councilman Woods told the Mobile City Council during the March 17 pre-meeting that the proposed agreement with the Mobile Museum Board should be tabled so it can be aligned with the ordinance that defines the board’s duties.
Woods said he had discussed the matter with administration after the agreement hit the agenda and planned to “make a motion to table this and provide at least the next week to work together with the administration to come up with an agreement and an ordinance change that we intend to present next week.” He said that matching the agreement and ordinance at the same time would be “easy and seamless.”
Several council members asked for additional input from museum leadership. Councilman Penn requested an update from the museum’s executive director about board composition and current vacancies so the council can understand how any proposed reduction or restructuring of board seats would affect the museum’s operations. Staff said it could provide the requested information during the week or arrange for museum leaders to speak at the next meeting.
The council did not adopt the agreement at the pre-meeting; the motion to table was made so that council and administration could revise the agreement and prepare an ordinance for forthcoming consideration.
