Second Street Gallery urges council to increase Vibrant Community Fund support for arts

Turner said the VCF panel recommended roughly 6.24% for arts and that visual-arts organizations were recommended to receive about $10,530 of the $2.6 million VCF pool, which he described as 0.4% of the total.
Turner said the visual-arts sector has experienced recent closures of three exhibition spaces downtown, reducing opportunities for local artists, and urged council to demonstrate that arts are a funding priority. He requested council approve $20,000 for Second Street Gallery, matching last year's award, or direct the city manager to use the Quality of Life discretionary fund if VCF funds are not available.
Councilors did not act on the request during the meeting. Staff and council members acknowledged the submission and said budget deliberations and VCF recommendations would be addressed as part of the FY27 budget and grant review process.
Next steps: Turner said he would follow up with staff and the council regarding VCF recommendations and possible discretionary support if the VCF award is not revised.
